Grocers and tea merchants in Carlisle since 1865, and still roasting to recipes kept inside the business for over a century, including the High Continental that came out of a roast left too long in 1872. The cafe on Bank Street has been theirs since 1897. Roasting moved a few streets away to Blackfriars Street, where a Toper machine runs daily and you can watch it work.
