Trading as John Farrer & Co since 1819, which makes it one of the oldest coffee roasters still working in Britain. Started blending tea and roasting coffee in a shop on Stricklandgate in Kendal, and now roasts in batches at a purpose-built roastery on the Shap Road estate. Several house blend recipes have been handed down through generations.
