Heart Coffee Roasters was founded in 2009 by former Finnish national barista champion Wille Yli-Luoma in Portland, Oregon. Heart brought a distinctly Nordic, ultra-light roast philosophy to the Pacific Northwest and helped popularize the modern American light-roast aesthetic. The roastery and flagship café on East Burnside Street pair a Probat UG-22 with an open production floor visible from the seating area; a second café operates on Northwest 13th Avenue. Heart maintains long-running relationships with producers in Kenya, Ethiopia, Colombia, and Honduras.
