Stumptown was founded by Duane Sorenson in 1999 in a former beauty parlor on Southeast Division Street in Portland, Oregon. Widely credited with sparking the American third-wave movement alongside Intelligentsia and Counter Culture, Stumptown pioneered direct-trade sourcing, in-house barista training, and the bottled cold-brew category it launched in 2011. The roastery still operates from its Southeast Salmon Street headquarters in Portland and runs cafés in Portland, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and Chicago. Signature offerings include the Hair Bender espresso blend and a rotating Africa-heavy single-origin lineup.
