Stumptown was founded by Duane Sorenson in 1999 in a former beauty parlor on Southeast Division Street in Portland, Oregon. Widely credited with sparking the American third-wave movement alongside Intelligentsia and Counter Culture, Stumptown pioneered direct-trade sourcing, in-house barista training, and the bottled cold-brew category it launched in 2011. The roastery still operates from its Southeast Salmon Street headquarters in Portland and runs cafés in Portland, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and Chicago.
