Ruera Factory is located in Kiambu County, just outside Ruiru in central Kenya. Covering more than 190 hectares of coffee cultivation, the estate sits at 1,740 metres above sea level on rich red volcanic soils. Combined with two distinct rainy seasons each year, these conditions create an ideal environment for producing high-quality Kenyan coffees. Coffee cherries are selectively hand-picked and delivered to the estate's wet mill, where they are carefully sorted before processing. The cherries are pulped shortly after harvest, with close attention paid to every stage of fermentation and washing to preserve quality and clarity in the cup. The coffee is then dried on raised beds using natural heat until it reaches a stable moisture content of 10–11%, ensuring both consistency and longevity. Ruera Factory is also an important employer within the local community, providing work for hundreds of people throughout the harvest season and supporting more than 1,000 livelihoods across the coffee production chain. The estate offers housing for resident workers, childcare facilities, access to education, and healthcare services, helping foster a secure and supportive environment for employees and their families. This combination of favourable growing conditions, careful processing, and long-term investment in both quality and community has made Ruera Estate a respected producer of classic Kenyan coffees, known for their vibrant fruit character, structured acidity, and sweetness.
