Origin: Kenya Region: Kirinyaga County Producer: Kiangai Factory Varietal: SL 28, SL 34, Batian, Ruiru 11 Processing: Washed Altitude: 1600-1800 MASL Harvest: October – December Roast: Espresso Style + Filter Style The Story Behind the Cup The Kiangai Factory was established in the 1960s alongside the Kibirigwi Farmers Cooperative Society, which today operates eight factories throughout the region. Water used during processing is sourced directly from the nearby Kibirigwi River, located just 50 metres from the factory. After harvest, cherries are carefully sorted and floated before pulping, then fermented overnight and washed clean. The parchment is graded and dried on raised tables for 8–14 days, a process that supports the clarity, sweetness, and structure Kenyan coffees are known for. The cooperative also places strong emphasis on farmer support and long-term sustainability. An employed agronomist works with members to improve farming practices, while the society produces more than 200,000 seedlings annually and distributes manure to support healthier farms and future harvests.
