Guchienda - Washed Process - 2025
8.75 USD
After founding Guchienda in the early 1950s, Elikana Njiru Guchienda laid the foundation for the estate's future in coffee production by planting its first 1,200 coffee trees in 1963. Following Elikana's passing, the farm was inherited by his son, Stephen Mati Njiru, and his wife, Esther Wanjiku Kamau, who expanded Guchienda by planting over 4,000 additional trees, most of which are the esteemed SL28 variety. The estate is now under its third generation of family stewardship, with Esther managing it since Stephen's passing in 2015 alongside their sons, Edwin Kamau Mati and Benson Njiru Mati. This particular lot was produced as a part of the Retro 1984 project, which was the source of several outstanding Reserve Lots last year. Similar to a number of those prior releases, this lot is composed entirely of the SL28 variety. A big, sweet, and savory Kenyan profile, we find fresh blackberry and lime peel in the cup alongside additional flavors of blackcurrant, cola, and fresh sungold tomato in the finish.
